Efficient synthesis of fluorine-containing oxazolidinones from atmospheric CO2 (WP2)
Host institution: University of Zurich (UZH), Switzerland
Application Deadline: 31st May 2020
3 PhD year position. Expected start date: Mid 2020.
Remember to read the eligibility criteria here.
Objectives:
- Develop catalytic processes for the efficient synthesis of fluorinated oxazolidinones from propargylamines, electrophilic fluorinating agents and atmospheric CO2 with special focus on non-precious metals.
- Acquire in depth mechanistic understanding on this transformation
- Design chiral Lewis acid catalysts for asymmetric reactions
Expected results:
- Reliable catalytic system for the synthesis of highly functionalized fluorinated oxazolidinones
- Kinetic profiles supported by DFT calculations unravelling the steps along the catalytic cycle
- Library of F-containing oxazolidinones with pharmaceutical potential
Planned secondments:
- AU to Prof. Skrydstrup (3 months): Development of a compartmentalized reaction set up (with ESR2).
- Industrial secondment to AZ, Dr. Johansson (3 months): Design of chiral catalyst for enantioselective CO2 incorporation.
