Our annual report gives an account of the research and activities of our network for all who wish to follow us up or learn more about us. 2022 was a year rich in travels, as our ESRs took full opportunity of the lifted travel restrictions to go to their secondments and all 15 of them were gathered for the very first time at our Annual Meeting in Rostock, Germany.

Stephanie (ESR9, AU) has collaborated with Craig S. Day from ICIQ on a paper about Ni–Polypyridine Complexes, which was published last week in Organometallics. Congratulations to all authors!

Abstract:
Herein we disclose the synthesis of sterically encumbered dialkylnickel(II) complexes bearing 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline ligands. A comparison with their unsubstituted analogues by both X-ray crystallography and theoretical calculations revealed significant distortions in their molecular structures. Eyring plots along with stoichiometric and photoexcitation studies revealed that sterically encumbered dialkylnickel(II) complexes enable facile C(sp³)–C(sp³) reductive elimination, thus offering an improved understanding of Ni catalysis.

Last Friday, the whole ITN met with our Project Officer from the Research Executive Agency ?? (REA).
