Development of catalysts for aminocarbonylation reactions of olefins with CO2 (WP3)

Objectives:

  1. Synthesis of novel heterocyclic phosphines with built-in base function
  2. Production of defined base cobalt complexes, for comparison also Pd and ruthenium complexes.
  3. Assessment of the catalytic activity in the reforming process of amines and CO2
  4. Examination of active systems in the benchmark reaction of CO2 with olefins and amines with a focus on raw materials obtained from biomass, optimization of the reaction conditions and evaluation of the substrate scope
  5. Work on developing scalable processes
  6. Training in elements of computational chemistry to acquire mechanistic aspects (stay at UiT)
  7. Assess the potential of catalysts sourced from partners for this methodology

Expected Results:

  1. Catalytic system that allows for aminocarbonylation of olefins with carbon dioxide
  2. Synthetic pathways for >20 different industrially relevant amides from carbon dioxide
  3. Pilot process for making monomers for polyamides based on CO2

Planned secondment(s):

  • UiO to Dr. Nova (3 months): Learn to perform computational mechanistic studies (with ESR10).
  • Industrial secondment to EV Prof. Franke (3 months): Develop a scalable process.
