Novel catalytic composites for the use of CO2 as a one carbon synthon for organic synthesis (WPs 1 and 3)
Host institution: Stockholm University (SU), Sweden
Application Deadline: 17th February
Objectives:
- Design and synthesize non-precious catalysts for reduction of CO2 to CO (reduction catalyst)
- Design and synthesize non-precious carbonylation catalysts (synthetic catalyst)
- Create catalytic composites formed by a reduction catalyst and a synthetic catalyst
- Evaluate scope and activity and perform in-situ mechanistic studies
- Apply developed catalysts in the synthesis of high-value carboxylic acids, esters, amides, and α-ketoamides
Expected Results:
- A variety of heterogeneous catalysts formed from combination of metal nanoparticles or single-site metal complexes into different materials, including metal-organic frameworks
- Description of characteristics, mechanistic details, and catalytic activity of the new catalysts
- A composite that combines a reduction and a synthetic catalyst for the use of CO2 as a one-carbon synthon
Planned secondments:
- ICIQ with Prof. Martin (3 months): Strategies for non-precious metal-catalyzed CO2 activation (with ESR1)
- Industrial secondment to AZ, Dr. Elmore (2 months): Optimization of developed carbonylation reactions to industrial settings and application to pharmaceutically relevant systems.
Enrolment in Doctoral degree(s): Stockholm University, Sweden
Principal Supervisor: Prof. Belén Martín-Matute (SU)
